On the tree top

Rock-a-bye baby, on the tree top,
When the wind blows, the cradle will rock.
When the bough breaks, the cradle will fall,
And down will come baby, cradle and all.

Don't you think that's a little too morbid for a lullaby?

I imagine the careless nanny/mother singing afterwards:

Oops, I did it again,
I was playing cards,
Got lost in the game,
Oh baby baby
Oops!.. Never knew you'd get hurt
But I'm an idiot
I'm not that innocent

Nice parody of Britney's song. xD

Hahahaha. A parodist in the making. Soon you'll be doing full songs like I do.

Nursery rhymes were all full of hidden messages. Ring-around-the-posies (or something like that) was supposed to be about the Black Plague.

Oh, and ever noticed that most of the nursery rhymes were rather morbid? Probably lullabies too.

Jack and Jill came down the hill and broke his crown;

Humpty Dumpty cracked;

This is the cat that killed the rat that ate the malt that laid in the house that Jack built;

And people complain that videogames desensitize kids to violence.

Haha. True, true. I didn't realize the extent to which nursery rhymes were dark and morbid until you pointed it out. Interesting. I wonder what stories they're telling.

Yeah, that's what happens when you've too much time on your hands to think about crazy things.

LOL. I was just about to expound on that for future posting!

Indeed, I've been wondering as well. In fact, most of Mother Goose's rhythm are infused with subtle political/social events.
